Microsoft has finally fixed the bug that was troubling Windows 11 users for the last 9 months. Especially those who run Linux along with Windows on their PCs. This bug started with the August security update last year, which prevented Linux from booting in dual-boot systems. Now the new May 2025 update has fixed everything. So, if you were thinking of trying Linux, then brother, there is no better chance than this!
This whole mess started with an update called KB5041585. Microsoft made some changes to Secure Boot, but accidentally spoiled the game for Linux users. Linux stopped working for those who used dual-boot. Just an error message on the screen—some "Shim SBAT Failed" and "Security Policy" drama. Linux fans were absolutely furious. A friend of mine, who lives in Pune, said, "Yaar, I thought I should buy a new laptop now!"
Linux, man, is the operating system that gives you complete control of your PC. And that too for free! Be it Ubuntu, Fedora, or Debian, there is something for every kind of user. Now that Microsoft has fixed this problem of dual-boot, there is no risk in trying Linux. I even installed Ubuntu on my old desktop. Can't believe it, that 2015 machine is now working as if I just bought it!

What can I say in praise of Linux? It is secure, there is less tension of viruses, and it makes even an old PC look young. In Windows, there is the expense of license every year, the hassle of updates. There is nothing like that in Linux. My uncle's son, who is in 12th, installed Linux for his school project and now boasts about it in front of everyone. This update from Microsoft makes Linux an even better option.
But, yes, Linux is not for everyone. If you are used to Windows, you will have to scratch your head a bit in the beginning. Some people run away on seeing the command line! And yes, if you need Microsoft Office or any software from Adobe, you will not find it in Linux. But Libre Office etc. will do the job. A distro like Ubuntu is so easy that even my sister, who is far away from technology, can run it. Now that dual-boot is okay, there is nothing to fear.
Tech people are saying that this move by Microsoft is an unspoken salute to Linux people. Developers, who use both Windows and Linux, are in luck. For example, Windows' WSL is already amazing. Now that dual-boot is smooth, Linux will spread even more. One of my teachers, who always praised Linux, said, "There is no better opportunity than this for students to learn coding." And he is right!

Somebody said, “It took 9 months, isn’t Microsoft ashamed?” While somebody else was jumping with joy that his Debian system was working again. One guy even wrote, “Download Linux, and say goodbye to Windows!” The only thing that made me laugh was when somebody posted a screenshot of his dual-boot setup, as if he had won a trophy. All these things show that the Linux craze is growing, and now Microsoft has also paved the way.
So, all in all, the bug fix by Microsoft has made life easier for Linux users. Linux is free, robust, and can make even your old PC rocket. Whether you are learning coding, or just want to try something new, give Linux a chance. I say, go download Ubuntu, and enjoy. Microsoft took 9 months, but now it’s Linux’s turn to shine!
