News are coming out that Apple, the giant of the tech world, is changing the launch schedule of the iPhone 18. This is part of the preparation to introduce the first foldable iPhone in 2026. A report by the media outlet “The Information” says that Apple will now hold the launch in two phases, which is usually held in the fall every year. This decision is to prioritize the foldable phone and facilitate production.

Apple will launch the iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max, iPhone 18 Air, and the foldable iPhone in the fall of 2026. However, the standard iPhone 18 and the low-cost iPhone 18e have been postponed to the spring of 2027. This move is to reduce the hassle of manufacturing six iPhone models at the same time. Apple is also planning to test these budget models in factories in India. This is part of a plan to reduce dependence on production in China.

The foldable iPhone is said to come in a “book-like” design. It will have a 5.5-inch outer screen when folded and a larger 7.8-inch screen when unfolded. This design, which competes with the Samsung Z Fold or the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, will combine the convenience of a phone with the size of a tablet. Renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says that the phone will be one of the thinnest foldable phones, at just 4.5 millimeters thick.

The foldable iPhone could cost between $2,100 and $2,500, making it one of Apple’s most expensive phones. However, Apple fans are expected to embrace this premium phone. The foldable phone market is expected to grow by 40% between 2019 and 2023, but is expected to grow by 5% in 2024 and decline by 4% in 2025. Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) estimates that Apple's arrival will once again make this market dynamic.

Technically, this phone will come with many innovations. Instead of Face ID, Touch ID may be included in the side button, which will save space inside the phone. With the liquid metal hinge, Apple is trying to reduce the fold lines on the screen and make the phone stronger. Battery life will also be improved by using high-capacity battery cells.

This new schedule will bring big changes to Apple's business strategy. By releasing more expensive models first, it can earn more revenue at the beginning. Manufacturing in two phases will reduce costs and streamline work. However, this change will mean more waiting for fans. It remains to be seen how Apple will shine in the foldable market.
